Patient Property Boxes

Introducing our new Patient Property Boxes

We are excited to announce the development of our new Patient Property Boxes, designed specifically for use in NHS hospitals. These innovative boxes are a vital solution for reducing the loss of patients’ valuables, ensuring they remain safe and secure while on the wards. Our property boxes not only protect valuable items but also provide peace of mind for patients and their families.

Enhancing patient experience at 3 North West Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs)

Recently, Patient Property Boxes have been introduced at CCGs. Originally implemented by two other NHS Trusts within the region, these boxes are now being trialled across four wards at 3 CCGs to safeguard essential personal items and enhance the overall patient experience.

Designed for essential personal items

The boxes are specifically designed to hold crucial personal items that patients rely on daily, such as dentures, hearing aids, and glasses. This thoughtful design ensures that all items are kept together, easily locatable, and can be moved quickly if necessary. Patients can rest assured knowing their belongings are secure and readily accessible.

Improving patient outcomes and experience

Clare Blackburn, Head of Patient Experience at one of the 3 Northwest clinical commissioning groups, emphasised the importance of these boxes:

“These property boxes will support our patients to keep hold of their important personal items, which when lost, can not only be extremely distressing to them and their relatives/carers, but can significantly impact on their recovery and slow down their discharge process.

“We hope by introducing these boxes we will help to give our patients, their relatives, and carers reassurance that we are continually improving the experience for patients in our care.”

Supporting vulnerable patients

The Patient Property Boxes are particularly beneficial for patients at risk of losing their personal items due to confusion, such as those diagnosed with dementia, experiencing fatigue, or under significant stress due to their hospital stay. By keeping these essential items secure, the boxes help to prevent the additional distress that can arise from losing vital possessions.

Positive feedback from patients and families

The introduction of these boxes has already received positive feedback from patients and their families. One family member of a recent patient commented:

“I think it’s a great idea. It will keep mum’s things safe, and they won’t get mixed up.”

Our Patient Property Boxes are a testament to our commitment to improving patient care and ensuring that their experience in the hospital is as comfortable and stress-free as possible. We are proud to support the NHS in enhancing patient safety and satisfaction.
